One week sailing trips
Most common are the one week sailing trips on
the Quattordici. In seven days time, we discover the
beauty of the Sporades. These islands are situated
in the north-eastern part of the Egean Sea. The
archipelago consists of several inhabited and
uninhabited islands, the most important being
Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros. We start
our journey from the picturesque port of Skiathos.
This port is conveniently located at a short distance
from the airport. We can organise pick-up from
the airport if so desired. A welcome drink &
snack are offered and ample time is provided to
get acquainted with both crew and accommodation.
The first sailing trip (usually
the day of arrival, provided arrival is before
5 pm) brings us to the small village of Glossa
on Skopelos. This short trip offers the passengers
a change to get used to the yacht. If time permits
we make a pit-stop in a small bay close to the
village before entering the harbour, so the guests
can enjoy a first dip in the water. In the evening
we visit the small village on top of the hills,
where one can enjoy the sunset and a nice view
on Skiathos.
The second day we sail along
the south-side of Skopelos to the east and make
one or two stops along the the way. Lunch is served
on board and in the afternoon we sail around the
eastern tip of Skopelos into the main harbour
at Skopelos town. Ample time is provided to visit
the town and admire the architecture of churches
and buildings, and enjoy a drink in one of the
numerous tavernas.
On day three we lift anchor around
9 o'clock and set sail for Alonissos. There we
anchor for lunch in Kokkino Castro (literally:
the Red Castle). The name is derived from the
colour of the rocks that surround the bay, which
have a deep-red colour that contrasts wonderfully
with the clear waters in the bay. In the afternoon
we head for Votsi, a small fisherman-hamlet where
the Nidri is well known and where we spend the
evening with our Greek friends.
Day four brings us to an uninhabited
island, Skantzoura. We spend the afternoon on
this deserted island, and take a hike to the old
abandoned monastery and the little church that
is maintained by the fishermen. From the top of
the hills we have an unforgettable view on the
surrounding Egean sea. We organise a barbecue
on the beach (optional) and enjoy the night away
from civilisation.
On day five we continue on to
Skyros, another 20 miles further south. Skyros
is the most remote island of the group and the
trip to the island is subject to weather-conditions.
It is a rugged island with a small fishing-port
on the western side and the capital Skyros situated
on a hilly slope along the eastern shore that
is really worth a visit.
Day six is a somewhat longer
sailing day (approx. 25 miles), because we make
our way back to Alonissos, where we arrive in
the afternoon. Depending on the conditions we
will have lunch either on the way or during a
pit-stop at Skantzoura. In Alonissos we will visit
the harbour town of Patitiri and the old town
on top of the hill that dominates the island.
This old village, almost completely destroyed
during an earthquake in the 1960's has been completely
rebuilt and restored and is well worth visisting.
During day seven we sail back
to Skiathos and have a stop-over at one of the
surrounding little islands to have lunch and a
swim from one of the sandy beaches that are characteristic
for this area.
